Trawler order for Rolls-Royce and Astilleros Gondán

Fishing company Engenes Fiskeriselskap, based at Ibestad in the north of Norway, went to Rolls-Royce for the design and much of the equipment going into its new freezer trawler, and the new vessel will be built at Astilleros Gondán in Spain.

The new 70 metre trawler will be packed with green technology, making it one of the most advanced vessels of its kind anywhere in the world.

‘This is a milestone in our company and it continues the long trawling traditions in the Ibestad region,’ stated Johannes Arne and Børge Arvesen at Engenes Fiskeriselskap.

Built to a Rolls-Royce NVC 370 design, the new trawler features a hull designed to provide low resistance, and meets the requirements for low fuel consumption combined with good seakeeping qualities.

The propulsion, deck machinery, electrical and automation systems are all designed to provide environmental and operational advantages.

In addition to the design package, Rolls-Royce are also supplying the hybrid propulsion system with the latest Bergen B33:45 main engine, Proma integrated rudder and propeller system and a hybrid shaft generator system that provides optimum power consumption under a variety of operating conditions. Rolls-Royce will also supply electric winches, including trawl winches with permanent magnet motors, as well as ship’s automation and electrical systems.

‘We are proud to have this opportunity to co-operate with Engenes Fiskeriselskap, a new customer for us, which has gone for an investment that will stand the test of time by selecting both a design and equipment that are proven and forward-looking,’ said Monrad Hide, VP sales of Rolls-Royce Commercial Marine.

The new Engenes Fiskeriselskap trawler is designed for both demeral and pelagic trawling. Part of the design is a newly developed wet reception, which keeps the fish alive and in prime condition, while the factory deck will have capacity to produce both whitefish and shrimp.

The new trawler is scheduled to be delivered by Astilleros Gondán in the first quarter of 2021.
