Taits christened at Westcon

Norwegian shipyard Westcon has delivered a new pelagic vessel for owners in Scotland, with the new Rolls-Royce designed vessel built to an NVC 331 design with eleven RSW tanks.

In 2006 the yard built Chris Andra for the same owners, who came back for the new Taits, a 74.80 metre LOA by 15.50 metre beam pelagic catcher completed at the yard in Norway on a hull delivered as a partly outfitted unit by the Remontowa yard in Poland.

‚ÄėThe experience we had with Westcon from 2006 is why they were chosen again,‚Äô said William Tait of Klondyke Fishing Company, who has spent the past few months at the yard during the fitting out process.

‚ÄėHere there are people with plenty of expertise who are very easy to work with. If they come across a challenge they go straight into solution mode,‚Äô he said.

‚ÄėThere is a great deal of equipment to be installed, and then it is important that the yard has direct communication with us so that everything fits into place. That‚Äôs why we have been here for the last part of the process, and it has been a pleasure to be here at Westcon.‚Äô

Taits is one of the most technologically advanced pelagic vessels of its kind, and incorporates much of the latest technology, including 55-inch wheelhouse displays and a sophisticated Furuno navigation system.

‚ÄėThis ship has great advantages in that it ensures the quality of the catch even better, with opportunities for even faster cooling of the fish,‚Äô Willie Tait said.

The new pelagic vessel has attracted plenty of interest, and according to the yard’s Endre Matre, images of the ship’s navigation systems have been shared more than a quarter of a million times on social media.
