New Research to be built in Norway

The Shetland Islands-based Research Fishing Compay has signed a contract for a new pelagic vessel to be delivered in late 2018.

This is the company third Norwegian-built, Skipsteknisk-designed Research, following one built at Slipen Mekaniske in Sandnessj√łen in 1997 and the second by Flekkefjord Slipp in 2003, which has just been sold to JFK in the Faroe Islands and renamed Borgarin.

The new 80m LOA by 16.20m beam Research is to be built to Skipsteknisk’s ST-126 design by Vard Group (Vard Langsten) with the hull to be constructed in areas around the Langsten yard.

It will feature several innovations. The winches are electric, but Research will also have the first electrically-powered fish pump. The engine is based on common rail technology to achieve the lowest possible fuel consumption and emissions.

Research will also have the Vard SEAQ bridge solution based on ‚Äėbig screen‚Äô principle (50-inch) and fully integrated monitoring, alarm and automation systems for ship.

It is scheduled to join the Whalsay fleet in September 2018.
