Building in Bangladesh

Norwegian fishing company H √ėstervold AS is reported to have signed a contract for a new 80.30 metre LOA by 17 metre beam pelagic vessel to be built at the Western Marine Shipyard Ltd in Bangladesh.

According to Kystmagasinet, the Western Marine Shipyard does not have a reputation in Norway, but it has a workforce of 4000 and has built cargo vessels and ferries in recent years for German and Danish operators, as well as having built fishing vessels for local operators using Icelandic designs.

The price tag for a vessel of this kind, built in Bangladesh, is reckoned to be close to that of the first of the Turkish-built pelagic vessels, Malene S, which was fitted out with a main engine and other equipment taken from an older vessel.

Kystmagasinet reports that the new H √ėstervold vessel will cost ‚ā¨11.70 million, plus NoK50.18, equivalent to NoK157.30 million at present exchange rates, making this a significantly attractive price for a vessel of this size.

The new H √ėstervold vessel is designed by Sawicon, which also designed B√∂rkur (ex-Malene S) and Sigur√įur (ex-Magnarson) that were built at Celiktrans in Turkey in 2012. The main equipment is reported to be a MAK main engine, Ibercisa winches and Karm√ły Winch deck equipment, with an expected completion date in December 2018.
