Westcon to build new Gunnar Langva

A new Gunnar Langva will join the Norwegian fleet in 2019. This is a replacement for the 2003-built vessel of the same name and the owners have gone back to the same yard and designer for their new purse seiner/pelagic trawler.

Like the current Gunnar Langva, the new vessel will be a Rolls-Royce design built at Westcon Yards.

‚ÄėWe have been considering building a new vessel for a while, and decided to collaborate with Westcon and Rolls-Royce, based on the good co-operation we had with the present boat,‚Äô said owner Gunnar Longva, who together with Bjarne Longva owns √Ölesund fishing company Gunnar Langva AS.

The new vessel will be a 74.80 metre by 15.50 metre beam pelagic vessel built to a Rolls-Royce NVC 353 design and with a Bergen B33: 45 main engine, together with Promas integrated rudder and propeller. Rolls-Royce will also deliver a package of hydraulic winches.

‚ÄėWe are pleased with the renewed trust from Bjarne and Gunnar Longva, and look forward to continuing the good co-operation with the company and Rolls-Royce in the years to come. Westcon Yards has always been keen to take good care of their customers, and we are now ready to deliver another quality ship,‚Äô said Alterre Matre at Westcon Yards.

‚ÄėOur strategy is to build additional activity beyond the offshore market, and we are very pleased that through this contract we show that we are still competitive in the construction of fishing boats,‚Äô he added.

‚ÄėThe focus on development has been a continuation of today's efficient Gunnar Langva, with a newly-developed hull based on a Promas propulsion system for reduced fuel consumption and low noise levels, as well as a cost-effective and maintenance-friendly design,‚Äô said Monrad Hide, VP Sales at Rolls-Royce.

Gunnar Langva is expected to be delivered in mid-2019. It will have a 2250 cubic metre RSW capacity and accommodation in 13 single cabins.
