Longliner orders for St Petersburg yard

The Severnaya Verf yard in St Petersburg has signed contracts to build four factory longliners for three Russian fishing companies. Two are to be built for LLC Virma and one each for LLC Globus and LLC ArktikrybFlot, with the series to be complete by 2022.

The 58.60 metre, 13 metre beam factory longliners are to be built to a design from Norwegian company Marin Teknikk, and LLC Globus managing director Abdrei Zaika said that Severnaya Verf had been chosen to construct the four new longliners based on its previous experience in delivering longline vessels and other vessels built to a very high standard.

Severnaya Verf, which is a part of Russia’s largest shipbuilding conglomerate United Shipbuilding Corporation, has a long track record that includes building sophisticated vessels for the offshore sector for customers in Norway, as well as building ferries, cargo vessels and a long list of military deliveries.

The longliners are expected to operate in northern waters, targeting cod and haddock and LLC Virma’s managing director Ivan Pasinkov said that to optimise construction costs, the three companies had agreed to collaborate in building their vessels as a single series.

‚ÄėThe Norwegian design was selected, as Norwegian designs are the ones that are the most popular,‚Äô he said, adding that a Russian naval architecture and engineering consultancy will handle the detailed engineering, technologic and operational documentation.

According to Severnaya Verf’s general director Igor Ponomarev, the longliners are being built as part of the investment quota framework.
