Dutch owners order MDV-pattern newbuilds

The Hoekman Shipbuilding yard in Urk and the Padmos yard in Stellendam have confirmed that two new twin riggers have been ordered for Dutch owners, to be built on the same lines as the experimental MDV-1 that was built in 2016 for Urk owners.

According to Leon Padmos, one of the two new trawlers is to be built for the van Slooten family, owners of the UK-227 and the NG-12, and the new vessel will become UK-225, while the second vessel, so far known only as MDV-2, is to be built for the Kramer-Romkes partnership that has already been fishing successfully with the original MDV-1.

‘We now have more than two years of experience with the MDV-1 and everything has worked very well, meeting all of the requirements,’ he said, and added that the MDV-1’s performance as a twin rigger fishing for plaice has been highly positive.

The first of these two new trawlers will is scheduled to be delivered in May next year, with the second to follow four months later. The specifications are practically identical to the MDV-1, with the same highly economic diesel electric propulsion and the same co-operation between the two yards to complete these specialised vessels.

He commented that aside from the co-operation with Hoekman Shipbuilding on the UK-225 and the MDV-2, the Padmos yard is also scheduled to deliver more combination trawler/fly-shooters for French customers.

‘We are building two more trawler/seiners for Scopale in Boulogne, with hulls built at Manche Industrie Marine (MIM) in Dieppe and outfitted in Stellendam,’ he said.

These are scheduled to be delivered at the end of this year and in early 2019, while the yard is also building a pair of trawler/seiners for Lorient company APAK, due for delivery at the end of this year and in April 2019.
