Clothing drying systems from Dutch company Pronomar are in increasingly widespread use on commercial vessels, and the company is also seeing increased interest from shipyards in installing drying facilities.

‘Being able to dry and warm up your work garments in between shifts is a must for the crews working at sea, whether it dealing with extremely low temperatures, bad weather, or even both,’ said Pronomar’s Iris Wiebrens.

‘But this applies not only apply to vessels and their crews out at sea, but also to shipyard staff who know what it is like to work under tough work conditions. A lot of these activities are carried out during the winter months. It is of high importance that the cold weather doesn’t slow the workforce down. Being able to do your job in dry attire, will not only prolong the lifespan of the expensive workwear, but also motivates the workforce.’

She explained that drying systems are easy to install with a number of open configuration options, drying cabinets and containerised systems possible, enabling yards to place the systems where and how it suits them best.

‘This means that staff can easily store their workwear, boots, gloves and helmets at the end of the day, knowing it will be completely dry and warm before beginning their next shift.’
