Icelandic seafood technology company Skaginn 3X has hired Pétur Jakob Pétursson as its new regional sales manager for Russia and CIS.

Fisheries science graduate Pétur Jakob Pétursson has experience in the seafood industry, having worked at leading German processor Deutsche See as well having been a quality and production manager for Samherji Group, providing him with an insight into both sides of the business.

The decision by Skaginn 3X to expand in Russia came as a result of increased business opportunities. The company is currently completing its first large project in Russia, an onshore fish processing plant on the Kuril Island of Shikotan. The plant is set to be completed within 2018 and will have the capacity to process over 900 tonnes of fish per day.

Skaginn 3X signed a contract for a second onshore processing plant recently, which is scheduled to be completed in 2019/2020 in Russia Far East, and is in negotiation with several companies to supply turnkey solutions for offshore processing, ranging from smaller vessels to factory trawlers, pelagic, whitefish and shellfish sectors.

‘When the opportunity arose to work for Skaginn 3X, I saw a chance to be part of something truly unique,’ Pétur Jakob Pétursson said.

‘To work for an innovative technology company on the frontier of a processing revolution that is creating a new era for food processing, where quality, efficiency and maximisation of clients’ finite resources is at the forefront. I’m looking forward to being a part of the new era of fish processing in Russia.’

He will be an important addition to the Skaginn 3X team and play an integral part in further developing the Russian market, according to the company’s sales and marketing manager, Jón Birgir Gunnarsson.

‘We have seen a significant increase in the Russian market and feel Pétur’s experience will help us further develop the good relationship we have with our Russian clients and create new opportunities in the area,‘ Jón Birgir Gunnarsson said.
