Royal Greenland goes for Carsoe – again

Aalborg company Carsoe has been selected by Royal Greenland to supply a complete processing line for the company’s new factory fillet trawler, one of two new Skipsteknisk-designed vessels being built for the company at the Astilleros de Murueta yard in Spain.

The two trawlers are an ST-118 filleter trawler with a 120 tonne/day capacity and a December 2018 delivery date, and an ST-119 shrimp/flatfish trawler with a 90 tonne/day capacity and delivery scheduled for early 2019. Royal Greenland had already chosen Carsoe to supply the shrimp trawler’s processing deck, and the company has now confirmed the same supplier for the fillet trawler.

According to Mikkel Jacobsen at Carsoe, this is a major milestone for the company.

‘The co-ownership of Steel Tech Carsoe in Ålesund has proven to be the perfect match for both of us. From now on Carsoe is also in the market as supplier of state of the art plants for onboard processing from A to Z,’ he said, commenting that the sophisticated processing plant is not only designed for maintaining the high quality of freshly caught fish all through the process, but the automation also secures a safe and sound working environment for the crew.
‘We have put together all the know-how from Steel Tech and Carsoe and we have come up with an impressive processing plant, that will take us a giant step further in reaching our company’s goal to become a global and complete supplier of onboard factories,’ he said.

The new Royal Greenland fillet trawler will fish for Greenland halibut and various whitefish species. The Carsoe processing plant has to be able to make it possible to produce fillets, H&G and round frozen fish with simultaneous production. On the way through the automatic processing line, the catch will be sorted by species and the fish graded. The fillet and round fish will be frozen in automatically loaded and unloaded horizontal freezers, packed and then transferred to the ship’s freezer hotel for palletising on its way to the refrigerated fishroom.
